A former chef convicted for possessing child exploitation material earlier this year was back before the court this month for offences under the Child Protection Act.

Dallas Lawrence Patric Bunn, 35, was convicted in Rockhampton District Court in February for possessing two videos of child exploitation material.

Crown prosecutor Matthew Sutton said Bunn had been busted with the files on November 29, 2021.

He said the files depicted children aged 13-14 in sexual acts with an adult.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said his client was high on methamphetamines at the time of the offending, and was unemployed.

Bunn, on February 16, was placed on probation for three years for the offending, with a conviction recorded.

Ten days later, Bunn failed to comply with reporting obligations under the Child Protection Act, and continued to fail with his reporting obligations a further six times, Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on August 25.

Police prosecutor Courtney Brown said Bunn failed to report contact with children, social media accounts, phone number and change of address.

The offences took place up until April 7.

Ms Brown said during a compliance check on April 7, police discovered Bunn had moved from his Gracemere address into a residence in Rockhampton which was the home of two children under the age of six, and he had been there since March 29.

“The defendant said he uses his partner’s mobile phone, however, had not reported this,” she said.

“During an examination of the phone, police identified the defendant had four social media applications that he’d been using.”

Ms Brown said those applications were Instagram, Twitter, Zoom and Grindr.

Defence lawyer Lachlan Robertson said Bunn use to work in hospitality.

A LinkedIn profile for the name of Dallas Bunn from the Rockhampton area had “Chef” since July 2018 at a motel and conference centre in the Beef Capital under the profile’s Experience heading.

Bunn pleaded guilty to seven counts of failing to comply with his reporting obligations under the Child Protection Act.

He was placed on another probation order – this one for 18 months – with convictions recorded.
