A Rockhampton chef has been accused of stealing more than a tonne of meat during a six-month period, but key CCTV evidence has been deleted.

Justin Stephen Millan, 37, was the head chef at the Park Avenue Hotel, on the corner of Haynes and Main streets in Park Avenue, when the alleged fraudulent activity took place.

He has been charged with one count of stealing by servant.

According to court documents, Mr Millan allegedly stole meat which was the property of the hotel between January 1, 2022 and June 14, 2022.

It is believed he allegedly stole 1115kg of beef worth $43,891.90, ordered through the same supplier the hotel used.

His defence lawyer David Mills told the Rockhampton District Court on May 29 that there was outstanding CCTV footage and receipts.

“This is a fraud matter regarding the sale and distribution of meat allegedly by my client,” he said.

Mr Mills said he had sent a submission to the Department of Public Prosecutions and was waiting for a response.

Crown prosecutor Cameron Keast said there was no CCTV footage as it was deleted.

Mr Millan’s matter was listed for arraignment on June 19 and his bail was enlarged.
