Investigations continue after a 37-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital after an unknown series of events in a housing commission unit in Berserker.
Emergency services were called to an address on Sharples St, Berserker on January 2, where they found the man grievously injured. He died in Rockhampton Hospital on January 5.
A neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said she had been introduced to the victim prior to the incident.
She said she was invited to meet the man, who she believed to be a friend of the woman next door.
“He was from elsewhere – I think he was staying at a motel.”
She said the following day, she saw the bloodied man being taken outside the property by paramedics.
“Blood was just dripping off him – it was everywhere,” she said.
“His eye looked like it had been gouged out … he also had a cut on his toe.
“But I can’t say what it was from.”
She said a resident at the housing commission block had come to her in a heightened state asking for an ambulance in the morning.
“All we heard was in the morning when she was a bit hysterical and asking for an ambulance.
“She said he had a fit and fell.”
Police appealed to the public for information on January 2 after the man was found with life-threatening injuries.
Police are continuing to prepare a report for the Coroner.
The cause of death is yet to be determined and investigations are continuing.
