Burua man charged with attempted murder after allegedly choking woman

Rodney Noel Marxsen, 61, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly choking and punching a woman until she lost consciousness during an alleged early morning attack on Monday.

The matter was heard in the Gladstone Magistrates Court Tuesday afternoon, the accused did not appear and his attendance was excused.

Defence lawyer, Bianca Wieland appeared on Mr Marxsen’s behalf.

Police will allege Mr Marxsen attended a Brendonna Road residence and began to force entry to the back door about 4.45am, while the 57-year-old woman, who was known to the man, fled the house via the front door.

Police will further allege he drove after the woman and when he caught up with her, he punched her a number of times in the face and choked her until she lost consciousness and then left the area.

The woman was transported to the Gladstone Hospital for treatment.

Mr Marxsen was charged with attempted murder, assault occasioning bodily harm, choking and enter dwelling with intent to commit a indictable offence.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information is urged to contact police.

The matter has been adjourned until 26 April to allow the prosecution to compile a brief of evidence.

Mr Marxsen is on remand and no bail application was submitted.
