Biloela court: Kurt Jensen and Douglas Charles Mooney plead guilty to drink-driving

One of the men caught drink-driving was a Baralaba coal miner who got behind the wheel with passengers on board after spending “most of the day” drinking at the Baralaba Hotel.

The following people pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on August 3 to drink-driving.

Kurt Jensen, 61, blew a reading of .148 when he was caught drink-driving on Mimosa Street, Baralaba, on June 2.

The court heard Jensen had three passengers in the vehicle at the time, and he had been at the Baralaba Hotel “for most of the day” drinking.

Jensen told Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale that he worked for a coal mine at Baralaba, and with no similar offending in the past five years, he was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for six months.

Douglas Charles Mooney, 50, blew a reading of .069 when he was caught drink-driving on Flinders Street, Monto, on May 19.

The court heard that Mooney was self-employed and this was his third drink-driving offence in the past five years.

He was fined $950 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

In recent months, many people have faced Biloela Magistrates Court for either drink-driving, drug-driving, or driving while unlicensed or disqualified.

On July 27, there were eight people who pleaded guilty to drink-driving or drug-driving.

On June 22, a staggering 23 drivers pleaded guilty to traffic offences on Biloela region roads.
