A man who caused chaos in a Yeppoon street early on Christmas morning has been punished for his offending.

Ethan Jacob Robbins, 19, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on January 20 to public nuisance and obstructing police.

The court heard that about 4.30am on December 25 last year, police were called to a Yeppoon street in relation to an incident.

After arriving at the scene, police spoke to a number of people including Robbins.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Robbins yelled and screamed, “repeatedly yelling the word f---”

Sgt Ongheen said police warned Robbins numerous times about his behaviour but he then yelled at officers “f---ing arrest me.”

“The defendant then began walking up the driveway towards the street, continuing to yell loudly,” Sgt Ongheen said.

“The defendant stopped at the edge of the driveway near the mailboxes.

“There was a shopping trolley near those mailboxes. The defendant grabbed the trolley and aggressively tipped it over, yelling and swearing.”

Sgt Ongheen said police then restrained Robbins and started walking him towards a marked police vehicle.

“He (Robbins) said words to the effect of ‘I’m going to make this hard for you’.

“The defendant has then attempted to resist (police)... and was trying to break free from the officer’s grasp.”

Police told Robbins numerous times to stop resisting but he didn’t, and police were forced to restrain him against a corrugated iron fence and handcuff him.

Sgt Ongheen said after police placed Robbin in a pod, he continued yelling, screaming and swearing.

“Police saw occupants looking out windows at the commotion,” he said.

The court heard that Robbins had no offending of this sort on his criminal history and he was on probation for unlike offending at the time of this incident.

A solicitor said on the day, tensions had been high, Robbins had been drinking “but nothing too much” and he had an argument with someone.

Magistrate Jason Schubert said Robbins’ behaviour had showed a lack of respect for police and the public generally.

“They (police) are doing their job 100 per cent, they don’t need someone behaving like a pork chop.”

Mr Schubert fined Robbins $600 and he did not record a conviction.
