Beau William Davidson pleaded guilty on October 25 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and wilful damage of a motor vehicle.

Defence lawyer Joanne Madden said her client claimed he only drove too close to the victim’s car, not coming into contact on the first occasion but after the victim slowed down unexpectedly, he did come into contact with her vehicle for a few seconds.

She said when the victim slowed down (not braking), her client’s vehicle pushed the victim’s car for about five seconds.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale said there was an earlier incident where Davidson drove up behind the victim, driving on the wrong side of the road around a corner and the victim had to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision.

She said while Davidson was driving along Hinchcliffe Street, turning onto Alexandra Street, he followed her and drove close behind her vehicle, driving into the back of it.

Ms Beckinsale said Davidson could be seen yelling at her when the victim looked in the rear vision mirror.

She said the victim drove at the speed limit which was 60km/hr and Davidson backed off from her vehicle for a short time before again driving into the back of her car, hitting the back of her vehicle.

“The victim took her foot off the accelerator but the defendant’s vehicle was pushing her vehicle forwards,” Ms Beckinsale.

She said there were other road users nearby at the time.

Police prosecutor Stacey Bain said Davidson’s actions put the victim at risk of harm along with other road users.

She said other road users called triple-0 “in fear” of the defendant causing damage and “their own safety”.

Ms Beckinsale said that at that speed, anything could happen when cars hit and she was glad the outcome was not worse.

Ms Madden said her client was a qualified bricklayer who worked as a painter.

She said he had four children.

Ms Madden said Davidson had been diagnosed with ADHD as a child and was in the process of being assessed for ADHD as an adult.

She said Davidson had taken rehabilitation steps, enrolling with Relationships Australia for counselling for his anger management, having his name down for months for the “heavily booked” program.

Davidson was disqualified from driving for six months and placed on an 18-month probation order. Convictions were recorded.
