Australia Post broken into at Red Hill Rockhampton

Police are investigating after two Rockhampton businesses were broken into on Thursday night. Here’s what we know.

Rockhampton police have launched investigations after two businesses were broken into on Thursday night.

The Australia Post store at Red Hill in Norman Gardens had its front door smashed, with police attending the scene early on Friday morning.

Shattered glass could be seen on the footpath in front of the post office doors.

The newsagency on Richardson Rd was also targeted.

A spokesman for Queensland Police Service said police were investigating a break and enter at the post office which was reported about 4am Friday.

The spokesman said scenes of crime officers would attend the businesses to conduct forensic examinations.

A spokesperson for Australia Post confirmed the Red Hill post office had been broken into and that the store would re-open when cleaning had been completed.

“The store was closed at the time of the break-in, so thankfully no employees or customers were on site,” the spokesperson said.

“We are working closely with the local police who are investigating this matter.

“The store is currently closed for cleaning and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.”
