A tobacco shop in North Rockhampton has closed after opening only one month ago.
Berserker Tobacconist opened on the corner of Clifton and Musgrave streets, across from Stockland Rockhampton, at the beginning of September.
The store sold vapes, cigarettes and other tobacco related products.
The tobacco shop closed on October 1 with signage on the door advising it was permanently closed as well as a notice of termination of lease from the lessor’s solicitor.
According to the notice of termination of lease, the business owner had “failed to comply with the notice to remedy breach of covenant dated September 15, 2022, the lease dated August 17, 2022 in relation to the premises is hereby terminated”.
“You are required to immediately vacate the leased premises and yield up those premises in good and substantial repair and condition and to return any keys to the lessor,” the notice read.
Authorities were notified before the notice was served.
It is understood Queensland Health, a security guard and the complex owner attended at 7am on October 1, with Queensland Health removing a number of boxes from the premises. Police also attended and the only staff member present vacated the premises.
A locksmith changed the locks and the premises was secured.
The lessor apologised to complex tenants and their customers for the inconvenience caused over the past month.
From a post in Facebook group Rockhampton Community Notice Board, it was claimed the tobacco shop would have a “new and upgraded store in a few weeks”.
The business was paid by a visit by Queensland Health and police in mid September.
There was also an alleged break-in at the tobacco shop about a week later on September 19.
Ian Duane Armstrong, 18, and a 15-year-old girl, both from Berserker, were charged over the alleged break-in the following day, on September 20.
