A man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery in North Rockhampton on Sunday.

A police manhunt got underway shortly after 11.30am after staff at Foodworks, Main Street, were reportedly held up at knifepoint.

Police were called to the Park Avenue store after reports two males, both allegedly armed with knives, were involved in an armed robbery.

The store was immediately closed to the public and police quickly set up a cordon with police vehicles in surrounding streets.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed the dog squad had been called to the scene.

While the Foodworks store was closed for a period, it later reopened on Sunday afternoon.

The QPS spokeswoman said a member of the public alerted police to the incident.

“It looks like they (offenders) have stolen cash and fled on foot,” the QPS spokeswoman said.

“We’re conducting patrols to see if we can find them.”

Late on Sunday afternoon, police confirmed that a 23-year-old man from the Brisbane suburb of Algester had been taken into custody and charged with armed robbery.

He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Police said no-one was injured in the incident and Queensland Ambulance Service was not required at the scene.

It is understood police viewed CCTV footage at the Foodworks store.

Investigations are ongoing.
