Anton Quay Haynes, 31, made $1500 profit from a week-long drug trafficking business

A judge has described a single father’s drug trafficking business as “quite well established” despite only operating for one week.

A judge has described a single father’s drug trafficking business as “quite well established” despite it only operating for one week.

Anton Quay Haynes, 31, had 10 customers who he sold 89 grams of marijuana in one to seven grams quantities to 10 customers, making $1500 profit.

The trafficking was discovered after a search in October 202o where he was found in possession of xanax, 12g of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Haynes pleaded guilty in Rockhampton District Court on April 22 to one count of trafficking drugs, one of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, two of possessing drugs and two of possessing drug utensils.

Crown prosecutor Matthew Sutton said Haynes had a 14-page criminal record with two district court sentence entries and included seven convictions for drug offences.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said Haynes, who was supported in court by his mother and sister, had worked at a CBD cafe prior to the birth of his son in December who he has the full-time care of as the child’s mother was in prison.

He said Haynes ran away from living with his father when he was 13 years old after being hit with a cricket bat.

Mr Ahlstrand said his client had worked in various industries over the years since starting out as a trolley collector when he was 14 years old.

He said Haynes instructed he had sold drugs to pay for living costs.

Mr Ahlstrand said his client has now engaged with a housing organisation to secure a home for himself and his son as he had been living in Brisbane with a friend.

Judge Jeff Clarke said Haynes’s one-week, 10-customer, 26 supplies marijuana trafficking business was “quite well established, it seems to me”.

He said the defendant’s criminal record included a conviction for robbery with violence.

The court heard Haynes reoffended five times while he was on bail for the trafficking charge.

Judge Clarke said Haynes’s appearance in court on the day of sentence indicated he was no longer using drugs.

He sentenced Haynes to 15 months’ prison with immediate parole release.
