A man has died after suffering critical injuries and becoming trapped in a vehicle after a front end loader and ute collided on the Bruce Highway, south of Rockhampton, on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash about 5km north of Marmor about 8.20am.

Investigations indicate that about 8.15am, a gold-coloured utility and front-end loader collided while travelling on the Bruce Highway.

A 53-year-old man from Morayfield, the driver and sole occupant of the utility, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 45-year-old Gracemere man, the driver and sole occupant of the loader, was transported to Rockhampton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was in a stable condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit is asking for anyone with information on the crash, or dash-cam footage, to contact police.

It is understood the incident happened near roadworks.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police had gone to Rockhampton Hospital to talk to the driver of the front end loader.

The Bruce Highway at the intersection of Old Coach Road was closed at Bajool, with lengthy delays throughout Friday.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have made inquiries and are assisting Queensland Police Service.
