Olympian Mark Stockwell heads Agnes Water retirement resort, shopping centre

A new shopping centre and a retirement lifestyle resort with a cinema, lawn bowls green and more is coming to Agnes Water. See the design plans and what else is included.

Former Olympic medallist Mark Stockwell is heading a new shopping centre and retirement lifestyle resort at Agnes Water with the first homes ready for residents later this year.

Stockwell, a Queensland-based property and development company, bought the land at Agnes Water in 2018, adding to its portfolio which includes Bargara Central Shopping Centre, as well as Solana Lifestyle Resorts at Hervey Bay, Bribie Island and soon to be Mackay.

The Solana at 1770-Agnes Water is currently under construction on 12 hectares at 13 Watermark Ave.

Development approval was granted in 2021 for 201 homes, with a mix of two and three bedroom homes featuring contemporary finishes and fixtures with engineered stone bench tops, airconditioning and solar panels.

At the heart of the resort is the Livewell Centre, a shared facility which includes a cinema, craft/ meeting room, library, lounge, servery, kitchen and community hall.

Agnes Water-based builder Brightlife Homes as well as Bundaberg Constructions are completing civil works and construction with Stage one almost 70 per sold to buyers from Agnes Water, Gladstone, Bundaberg, and the Northern Territory.

The development will roll out over the next few years with the first residents scheduled to move in later this year.

Stockwell also purchased 24ha at 2853 Round Hill Rd in Agnes Water for $2.2m in April, 2021, to build a shopping centre that is set to open in July this year.

The 166-car park centre, which neighbours Discovery Coast Christian College, will be anchored by a 2,000 sqm IGA-Everfresh supermarket with 1200 sqm of speciality stores including a bank, GP and a cafe.

Mark Stockwell, the managing director of Stockwell, represented Australia at the 1984 Olympics taking home three golds.

He also competed at the 1986 Commonwealth Games before retiring in 1992, going on to join the family business, which was founded by his parents.

He has remained involved in the Olympics and was the Chairman of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and Mayor of the Village during the Games.

He was also the deputy chairman of Australian Sports Commission and holds the chair of the Australian Sports Foundation and is the inaugural chairman of Trade and Investment QLD.
