Man taken to Emerald Hospital with arm and ‘significant’ leg injuries

A road traffic controller has been airlifted to Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital after he suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a car.

A road traffic controller on the Capricorn Highway near Emerald is in a stable condition in Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital after he suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a car.

The highway was shut down on Monday, June 24 after the man, understood to be a road traffic controller, was hit by a vehicle.

He was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital then on to Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital.

A Metro North Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman on Tuesday morning said he was in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said officers responded to the incident at the corner of the highway and Weemah Road, 5km east of Emerald, at 7.54am.

The Forensic Crash Unit was tasked to the job.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said a male with arm and “significant” leg injuries was taken to Emerald Hospital in a stable condition.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) will also be investigating the incident.

A WHSQ spokesperson confirmed they had responded to an incident that occurred on the Capricorn Highway, Emerald near the intersection of the Capricorn Highway and Weemah Road. 

“As this is an active WHSQ investigation, no further comment can be made at this time,” the spokesperson said.
