A man accidentally set himself alight while camping with a group of friends in a Central Queensland national park on Friday night.

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) received a call at 7:45pm to help the man who was suffering from burns after he had added an accelerant to a campfire at Kroombit Tops National Park, between Monto and Calliope.

According to the Biloela Beacon, the man aged in his 30s, suffered first and second degree burns to his face, torso, arms, and legs.

The Beacon reported the man’s friends called triple-0 and QAS provided treatment at the campsite before the man was transported to the park ranger’s cabin, roughly 30 km away, where he could be transported to hospital for treatment by RACQ CapRescue.

It further reported the plane arrived at the camp ranger’s site where he was treated by an RACQ CapRescue paramedic and doctor.

The man was flown out in a stable condition.
