The man is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

3pm: A 31-year-old Yeppoon man has been charged with weapons offences following an incident in Depot Hill on Wednesday morning.

Police will allege that shortly after 7am they were called to attend a traffic crash on East Street, where a car collided with another car and came to rest in a fence.

The man allegedly exited his vehicle in possession of a firearm and fled a short distance before police arrived and arrested him.

He was later charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a short firearm, possession of a dangerous drug, unlawful possession of a restricted drug, and possession of property for committing a drug offence.

The man is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

7.15am: A male has been taken into custody after he allegedly fled from the scene of a crash in South Rockhampton while armed with an alleged firearm on Wednesday morning.

A two-vehicle crash was reported at East and Francis Street, Depot Hill, just after 7am, with one vehicle crashed into a fence.

The vehicle was reported to be a gold Ford Falcon with no number plates.

It was then reported the male fled the scene through a vacant lot and headed towards the riverbank and throughout Depot Hill.

Multiple police crews raced to the area and the male was captured by police near the Fitzroy Motorboat Club on South and Quay Streets.

Police took the offender to the watchhouse.

The area was cordoned off to allow the dog squad to search for the firearm, which was found by police a short time later.
