PREVIEW: Big guns face off in Dolphins Cup
The stage is set for a blockbuster showdown between St Brendan’s College and The Cathedral College in the newly minted Dolphins Cup on Wednesday.
The Cup is one of three of Queensland’s premier schoolboys rugby league competitions.
You can catch all the action from it and the Dolphins Challenge, as well as the Aaron Payne Cup and Langer Trophy, on this website with all games being live-streamed.
St Brendan’s and TCC will play in the Dolphins Challenge (Year 10) at 5pm and the Dolphins Cup (open) at 6pm.
The Dolphins Cup and Dolphins Challenge also feature teams from Emmaus College and Rockhampton Grammar School, as well as Bundaberg’s Shalom College and Bundaberg State High School.
The Central Queensland and Bundaberg teams previously competed in the Aaron Payne Cup, which St Brendan’s won last year under coach Scott Minto.
Minto said 2022 presented a “new slate” with the new competition and a new-look St Brendan’s team.
He said his players had been preparing well and it was all about them building week by week and timing their run to ensure they were getting all the little things right when the stakes were higher.
“Last year we kept improving as the competition went on,” Minto said.
“Our approach of hard work and consistency in drilling home good habits set us up then and we have been adopting the same approach this campaign.
“The boys are looking cherry ripe and they can’t wait to get out and wear the famous green and gold with pride in our first match against TCC on Wednesday night.”
