Lighthouse Christian School expands with three new classrooms, master plan may include moving to a new site

Lighthouse Christian School has grown from a humble 25 students in 1994 to now 380 – and it has almost run out of room at its current location.

The Norman Gardens, Rockhampton school is now developing a master plan to investigate catering for future growth, which might even mean relocating to a new site.

As a temporary solution, the school has applied to Rockhampton Regional Council to put three new classrooms on its current Norman Road site.

The classrooms are to be located on the southern side of the school, between the existing multipurpose and cricket oval and will be constructed via demountable buildings, joined together with a roofed veranda.

Each classroom will have a total floor area of about 66.86 sqm and will accommodate for up to 20 pupils, catering for a total of 60 additional students and two new teachers.

The classrooms will be general learning areas to be used by high school students.

The development application notes the school is anticipating formalising a master plan addressing the future growth of the school, which might even require relocating to a new site.

The school was founded in 1994 as the Norman Park Christian School and at the time had only two classrooms and 25 students.

Over the years the school has grown and in 2004, it was renamed Lighthouse Christian School.

The school now consists of 380 students from prep to primary and secondary and 70 staff members.

The proposal was approved by council in January.
