Construction works at the $740M Boulder Creek Wind Farm in Central Queensland will begin in November.
The 228MW wind farm, located 40km south-west of Rockhampton in Queensland, is co-owned by Aula Energy and CS Energy, with CS Energy purchasing 100 per cent of the wind farm’s output for 20 years.
The project is expected to generate enough electricity to power 85,000 homes once it finishes construction in 2027.
The development includes 38 wind turbines located about 40km west of Rockhampton, between Westwood and Mt Morgan.
The wind farm is a collaboration between Aula Energy and CS Energy and is expected to create up to 250 jobs during the construction phase.
Central Queensland is home to a number of solar and wind projects, with some of them already under construction.
The first 207m tall wind turbine was installed in early October, 2023 at Clarke Creek Wind Farm.
Also in October, the Smoky Creek Solar Power Station near Biloela was given the tick of approval by Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.
Meanwhile, a group of residents from Kalapa took their fight against the Moah Creek Wind Farm to The Courier-Mail’s Bush Summit, held at the Great Western Hotel in Rockhampton just one month earlier.
The group also held a peaceful rally to ensure their voices were heard, before taking their cause to Queensland Parliament.
The largest wind farm in the country will soon be built in south-west Queensland.
The Tarong West Wind Farm will be located in Kingaroy and include 97 wind turbines, intended to generate enough clean energy to power over 230,000 homes.
The project is expected to create around 200 construction jobs and 15 operational roles.
State Government-owned energy generator Stanwell acquired the project from global renewable energy developer RES.
A Final Investment Decision for the wind farm is expected in early 2025.
