Galactic Donuts to open new store on Musgrave St as more new shopping outlets and eateries open in Rockhampton
If you like your shopping, it’s an exciting time because a number of new stores will open in Rockhampton and Yeppoon over the next few months. Here’s all of the details on what you have to look forward to.
Rockhampton

From food outlets to homewares and craft, there are some exciting changes happening to Rockhampton’s retail scene.
As well as the new stores that have opened in the past few months, there are some exciting additions opening soon.
Stockland Rockhampton
Some of Stockland Rockhampton’s much-loved stores have undergone a makeover in recent months, with both Laubman and Pank and Dusk reopening following renovations.
2022 also saw the weekly Sunday Markets move to the BCC Cinemas carpark.
The markets were originally in the car park at the Kern Arcade before they moved to Callaghan Park.
City Centre Plaza
Things have been busy in recent months at City Centre Plaza with a new eatery opening, a new discount store opening its doors and another retailer set to open soon.
Discount store at the centre, Madhouse, recently closed and a new store, Homedock, opened in a huge new shop last month next to Target.
That store has a large range of homewares, decor, pet products, kitchenware, gifts and more.
A new sushi and bubble tea eatery, ETUP, also opened at the centre in a newly renovated store in the food area.
Australian owned company Kaisercraft is also looking for casual retail staff and a store manager for its new City Centre Plaza store.
A Kaisercraft store opened at Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre early last year and there are more than 80 outlets across the country.
An opening date for the new Kaisercraft store at City Centre Plaza is not yet known.
Yeppoon Central
The Capricorn Coast’s shopping centre Yeppoon Central, has also seen a number of new openings this year.
Earlier this month the centre celebrated the grand reopening of Flight Centre and welcomed a brand new kebab shop when Kebab’n opened its doors in May.
A new footwear store is also expected to open in the centre soon.
ActiveFeet has been advertising for a store manager for its new Yeppoon store.
The store specialises in active footwear and day-to-day footwear.
Bay Plaza
Yeppoon’s Bay Plaza has been undergoing a huge redevelopment and while some of the centre’s stores will stay, a number of new stores and eateries will open their doors.
In March, it was announced that Groove Train, a wood-fired restaurant, cafe and bar, and burger chain Pattysmiths would be opening in the centre providing shoppers some casual dining options before catching the latest blockbuster at Yeppoon’s new and only cinema offering.
There is also a job currently being advertised for a manager for the cinema.
The new-look centre will also have a health and wellness hub, incorporating a state-of-the-art Snap Fitness, Medpods Medical Centre and a brand new LiveLife Pharmacy providing all the essentials in the one place.
Bay Plaza’s entertainment and retail precinct is expected to be open to the public in August.
Others
King Kong Sales
Variety store King Kong Sales recently opened its first Rockhampton store.
The business, which also has stores in Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gympie and Nambour, opened at Norman Gardens next to Bunnings and Autobarn.
The family-owned business opened their first store in 1990 as a discount variety store and while it still has some discount lines, their main focus is bringing an extensive on trend range of homewares, gift and lifestyle products at affordable prices.
The store is open from 8.30am until 5.30 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 8.30am until 7.30pm Thursdays and 9am until 5pm on Sundays.
Galactic Donuts
Last week Townsville-based doughnut store Galactic Donuts announced on its Facebook page it would be opening a store in Rockhampton in August.
According to the franchise’s website, the store will open at Shop 3 at 143 Musgrave St.
The store offers a wide range of doughnut flavours including glazed, cookies and cream, peanut butter and jelly, lemon and white chocolate and many more.
Another store is also expected to open in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane.
Banjo’s and Guzman Y Gomez Drive-Thru
While nothing has been officially been announced yet, a new Guzman Y Gomez and Banjo’s Bakery drive-through could open up in Rockhampton if a development application is approved by the council.
A development application was lodged with Rockhampton Regional Council in March for two new drive-through outlet to be built on the corner of George and Fitzroy streets.
If approved, the Guzman Y Gomez store would be Rockhampton’s second with Banjo’s Bakery a new store for the city.
KFC at Parkhurst
Rockhampton’s fourth KFC is expected to open its doors by the end of the year in Parkhurst.
It was announced in March the new store would open at the Parkhurst Town Centre over the north side of town.
The store, which plans show will feature a dual drive-through, will be located opposite the service station and fronting Yaamba Road (Bruce Highway).
The store is expected to be open by Christmas.
