Eastbound lane of Capricorn Highway and McLaughlin St closed because of gas leak

The eastbound lane of a highway which intersects with a busy street in front of a shopping centre was closed while emergency services deal with a gas leak.

Gracemere Police have reopened the eastbound lane of the Capricorn Highway and McLaughlin St in front of a shopping centre after a gas bottle leak.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said one of two crews sent there when they were called about 9.50am were still on scene to deal with a damaged 8kg gas bottle that had fallen from the back of a vehicle onto the road.

A QFES spokeswoman said they have liaised with a gas examiner and informed Rockhampton Regional Council about the incident.

It is understood council are the authority removing the gas bottle.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the incident was in hand.
