Due to her location, a winch recovery was the quickest and safest option

The Victorian woman in her 70s suffered a suspected broken ankle at a popular Central Queensland tourist destination.

A woman in her early 70s was winched to safety after suffering a suspected broken ankle at a popular Central Queensland tourist destination.

RACQ Capricorn Rescue was tasked at 10.20am Sunday to Rainbow Falls in the Blackdown Tablelands.

The Victorian woman had suffered the injury after falling and was unable to walk.

Due to her location and the manpower required to evacuate her from the falls on foot, it was decided that a winch recovery would be the quickest and safest option.

A rescue crewman and intensive care paramedic were winched about 60m into the Rainbow Falls gorge.

When they got to ground, they were directed through dense scrub to the woman.

She was bundled into an air rescue vest for recovery to the helicopter.

Rescue 300 recovered the patient and helicopter crew and departed for Rockhampton Hospital.

The woman remained in a stable condition and was reportedly in good spirits for the 30-minute flight.
