There are positives aplenty for the CQ Capras as it prepares for the 2023 Q-Cup season.

The team is ready to keep the momentum going after one of its most successful seasons in 2022, making the finals for just the third time in the history of the statewide rugby league competition.

The Capras’ affiliation with NRL’s newest franchise, the Dolphins, also comes into effect in the New Year, though players have been reaping the benefits of the partnership since it was announced in December 2021.

The deal means as many as six players from the Dolphins’ top 30 could turn out in Capras’ colours each week, bolstering an already strong squad assembled by head coach Lionel Harbin and his staff.

For the 2023 season, the Capras has re-signed a number of key players, including middle forwards Tyler Szepanowski, Lachlan Hubner and Bailey Butler who are doing a pre-season stint with the Dolphins.

It is also welcoming back local talent from other Q-Cup and NRL clubs including Aaron Moore, Larson Dale-Doyle and Tom Farr.

The team will be captained for the sixth straight year by halfback Jack Madden, who is recovering from hip surgery.

The Capras return to training on January 5 in preparation for their pre-season trial against the Dolphins on February 4 at Gladstone’s Marley Brown Oval.
