Convicted drug trafficker Ashley Ryan Williams busted with 4g of meth

A convicted drug trafficker who later produced drugs has again been busted with a significant amount of illicit drugs.

Ashley Ryan Williams, 37, pleaded guilty on December 20 in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to one count of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug.

Williams was busted with 5.685 grams of substance which contained 4.201g of methamphetamines after being intercepted by police in Rockhampton on November 25, 2021.

Crown prosecutor Joshua Phillips said Williams was on parole at time for trafficking drugs for which he was sentenced in 2017 to five years prison.

The court heard Williams, whose 12-page criminal record dates back to 2004, had been estranged from his parents for many years, along with his siblings and his five children.

Williams was sentenced in Rockhampton Magistrates Court in April 2020 for producing drugs and three counts of possessing drugs.

He was consuming marijuana excessively by age 15 and injecting meth daily by age 20.

Justice Graeme Crow said material provided to the court showed Williams had been living with his grandmother and partner, and had managed to stay away from drugs for a period until he relapsed.

“Williams had taken a number of steps to try and stay away from drugs,” he said.

Justice Crow said Williams had witnessed trauma – two hangings and a bashing – while in prison.

He sentenced Williams to 18-months prison, declared 306 days presentence custody and set immediate parole eligibility.
