Coral Princess arrives in Newcastle

An elderly woman was flown to hospital at the weekend after a fall on-board a cruise ship off the Central Queensland coast, making a busy weekend for local rescue helicopter crews.

RACQ Capricorn Rescue was tasked to the Coral Princess cruise liner on Saturday afternoon, which was located about 70 miles north east of Rockhampton.

A woman in her 80s had fallen while on the cruise ship and hit an object, suffering suspected internal injuries.

After a medical team on the ship assessed the woman it was decided a medical evacuation was needed.

The RACQ Capricorn Rescue helicopter left base about 4.30pm where the rescue officer and medical team were winched onto the ship to assess and stabilise the woman.

A stretcher winch recovery was then carried out to get the elderly woman onto the chopper.

She was flown to Rockhampton Hospital for further treatment.

On Sunday, the rescue service was in action again after being tasked to a motocross event near Coorada where a man in his 30s had fallen from his motorcycle.

The man, who suffered suspected upper limb injuries, was initially treated on scene by Queensland Ambulance staff before Rescue 300 flew him to Rockhampton Hospital. He was in a stable condition.
