A Central Highlands rugby league club has paid tribute to a “well liked” Dingo man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash north of the town on June 25.

Dean John Olive, 32, was driving along Fitzroy Development Road when his vehicle left the roadway and crashed at 7.16pm.

Tragically, Dean suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

Dean is survived by parents Darren and Noeleen Olive, and brother Travis. His grandparents were Allan and Allison Olive (both dec) and Noel (dec) and Penny Keller.

A minute’s silence was held before the Bluff Rabbitohs and Clermont Bears rugby league game at Maccas Oval in Bluff on Sunday as a mark of respect after Dean’s tragic passing.

Bluff Rabbitohs vice president Scott Power said the minute’s silence was held to “show support for the families who have been going through a tough time because of that tragic passing”.

Mr Power said both team also wore black armbands as a mark of respect.

“Dean and his family are well known to the communities of Bluff, as well as Dingo, and some of Dean’s relatives were playing for both the Bluff Bunnies and the Bluff Rabbitohs,” he said.

“As a mark of respect we did that minute’s silence on behalf of everyone there at the football club, thinking of the families following that late passing.”

He said some of Dean’s relatives attended the games at the weekend and found the tribute “overwhelming”.

“He was well liked and well known in the community and so is his family,” he said.

“It’s such a tragic loss.

“On behalf of the football club and the community we are all thinking of the family going through that tough time. Our hearts and thoughts are with them all.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service to celebrate the life of Dean in the East Chapel at Rockhampton Crematorium on Friday at 10am.
