New cases have been recorded in Central Queensland on January 17 as Courier-Mail data shows that some communities have recorded negative week-on-week changes.

There were a total of 180 Covid cases recorded in Central Queensland in the past 24 hours.

Of these, 49 were in Rockhampton, 52 in Gladstone, 39 in Livingstone, 36 in the Central Highlands, three in Banana Shire and one from elsewhere.

As of 8am, there were eight patients in Rockhampton Hospital’s Covid ward in a stable condition.

The Gladstone Regional Council has had a drop in Covid cases of 1.7 per cent compared to last week.

All other councils have had significant increases, with the week-on-week change for Rockhampton at 24.9 per cent, Livingstone at 42.8 per cent, Central Highlands at 64.2 per cent and Banana Shire at 53.3 per cent.

Ten new Covid cases were recorded in the Central West over the past 24 hours, according to CWHHS.

This leaves 58 active cases including one in Alpha, one in Aramac, five in Barcaldine, two in Bedourie, 14 in Blackall, one in Boulia, 30 in Longreach, one in Muttaburra and three in Winton.

CWHHS chief executive Anthony West said all these cases were being managed at home or in private accommodation.

“Central West residents should be in no doubt that COVID-19 is present in all our communities now and should take the necessary precautions,” Mr West said.

As of January 16, no deaths in Central Queensland or the Central West have been recorded.
