More than 15,000 Covid-19 cases were recorded in Queensland in the past 24 hours – new data though reveals where the fastest growing hot spots in southeast Queensland are.

It comes as Queensland recorded its highest single-day death toll since the pandemic began, with seven new deaths. All the people were aged 80 or older.

Data shows the Covid-19 outbreak on the Sunshine Coast and in Goondiwindi were among the fastest growing in the state – with cases more than doubling.

The number of cases are also growing quickly across southeast Queensland.

Case numbers in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area have jumped 38.4 per cent between December 29 to January 4 and January 5-11 from 2152 cases to 3491.

Some of the hardest hit suburbs are Murrumba Downs with 379 recorded cases since December 13, and North Lakes with 368.

The region has experienced long waits at testing sites with the 4CYTE clinic at Bribie Island closing for good and the one at Deception Bay only recently reopening.

Ipswich City Council had the next highest jump of 37.6 per cent – Redbank Plains is a serious hotspot with 1040 cases recorded.

Case numbers in Brisbane and Redlands increased by 34 per cent.

Logan had the lowest increase of just 18.6 per cent – Marsden is the hardest hit Logan suburb with 725 cases since December 13.
