Little List Co new event space for hire at 124 East Street, Rockhampton

In just under two years, Queensland mum Demi List has grown her business exponentially to now launch a space for hire, for events such as birthdays, baby showers and hens' nights. See how she did it.

A new event hire space has opened in the heart of East Street in the Rockhampton CBD with two rooms to choose from, each offering their own style.

Demi List of event organisation and party supply business Little List Co has transformed 124 East Street, between Coffee Society and Mark Bunt Menswear, into a blank canvas for guests to hire.

The main room at the front of the space has a darker and moodier feeling with neon signs and emerald green velvet couches while the back room is a bit smaller with a coastal and white style.

Demi started the venture in July 2021 on the side while on maternity leave and has now expanded it into a full time business.

“I saw a bit of a niche in the industry, I was having my bridal shower and baby showers and I thought ‘why isn’t there someone who can do this kind of stuff for you, decorate it and create the whole thing without you having to worry’,” she said.

“After I had my third child, I started playing with it and thought it would just be a weekend type hobby thing, a couple of stands a weekend and it’s just grown naturally to a full time business.”

The business caters toward smaller events of up to 60 guests.

“We focus on neon backdrops, signs and stands and small event set ups, baby showers, bridal showers … we can do all type of events,” Demi said.

After operating the business from home for 18 months or so, it got to the point where she was running out of storage space and she began to look for a shopfront.

“We thought why not use it as an event space as well,” she said.

“We came across this place and it had two different spaces and we kind of fell in love with it and thought ‘let’s give this a run’.”

The venue was previously a computer shop and was left in a rough condition.

“We stripped it all, put in some walls and redesigned the building to suit us, put in a storage space and office space,” Demi said.

“You can hire the full space or just front and back room, hire as a plain venue or do the full decoration packages, BYO drinks and food - we have a fully equipped kitchen.”

Now with one big goal ticked-off, Demi looks forward to what else she can achieve in the future.

“We will run this for a bit and see how it goes, then hopefully down the track we might tap into weddings.”
