Bartlem Constructions awarded $12.9M tender for Woorabinda housing

The nine new residences will be for frontline government staff in Woorabinda, including the health staff as the hospital is amid a $17.2 million extension.

A Rockhampton construction company has been awarded a $12.9 million tender for the construction of nine residences for government employees in Woorabinda, 170km south-west of Rockhampton.

Bartlem Constructions was awarded the tender by the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works in December, 2023.

The tender for the project in the community of about 1000 closed in October and is part of the State Government’s four-year $519 million investment in government employee housing.

The new housing is to be located at 3 Munns Drive, near the Woorabinda Multipurpose Health Service.

The development will include two one-bedroom, three-bedroom and four three-bedroom homes for frontline government staff.

“The homes will be used by several government agencies, including health, corrections and housing, for workers who help deliver frontline government services to the residents of Woorabinda,” a department spokesperson said.

There is a Queensland Government office in Carbine Street in Woorabinda which includes offices for child safety, corrections and housing.

The Woorabinda Multipurpose Health Service is set to undergo a $17.2 million extension to add 10 beds to the facility and other upgrades.

The project, announced in 2021, includes an increase of the residential aged care beds from four to 14, new kitchen and laundry, refurbishment of minor sections of the existing hospital along with more car park and landscaping outdoor area for residents, families and visitors to use.

Work was scheduled to start in early 2023 however has been delayed.

The health service employs approximately 30 clinical staff.

The new government employee housing is scheduled to be completed by December 2024.
