Levi Thomsen led the charge for Caribeae Swimming Club at the inaugural Australian Country Championships in Darwin.
The 12 year old medalled in all 13 of his events, finishing with an amazing haul of nine gold, one silver and three bronze.
Thomsen was one of 10 Caribeae swimmers who competed at the four-day event, which attracted more than 400 swimmers from all Australian states and territories.
The Caribeae contingent made 70 finals between them, which resulted in 37 medals.
Caribeae’s head coach Jodie Shanks could not have been happier with how her contingent performed.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for some of the kids to go away in a team situation, to race at that next level and compete against swimmers they may never have raced before,” she said.
“For them to swim PBs and race so well, I could not be prouder of how they all did.”
Shanks said the swimmers were tested with humid conditions and torrential rain, but they stepped up and met those challenges head on.
She said Thomsen had a fantastic meet and, despite a demanding schedule, was still clocking PBs on his way to claiming medals on the final day.
“He loves swimming and loves to be in the water. He loves to train and just loves to compete,” Shanks said.
Spencer Brown, 15, broke Northern Territory All Comers records in the 50m breaststroke and 400m individual medley, and missed the long-standing 100m breaststroke record by just .2 secs.
He finished with four gold and one silver medal.
Shanks praised the efforts of Taylah Fowler who “absolutely smashed everything she did” on her way to claiming two silver and three bronze medals.
“On the last day, she was incredible,” Shanks said.
“She went into the 200m freestyle placed fourth and swam an absolute blinder in the final to finish second, dropping five seconds off her PB.”
Jack Kelly put in some gutsy performances in some tough races to finish with two gold, one silver and three bronze.
Cooper Love won one gold and one silver, Sam Prasad one silver and two bronze, Hannah Kelly one silver and one bronze, and Amber Webber one bronze.
