Gold Coast Touch were crowned champion affiliate at the 2023 Junior State Cup played in Rockhampton.

The three-day carnival, which attracted more than 3500 participants from Townsville to Tweed, wrapped up on Saturday.

Twenty-six affiliates were involved, with a total of 862 games played across 21 fields in age groups from under-10 to under-18.

It was the first time Rockhampton had hosted Queensland’s premier junior event, which will return to the city in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031.

“We knew it was going to be a challenge; you’re not going to get everything right in the first year, but we’ll learn and look to improve on areas where we need to for the next one.

“All in all, I think things went exceptionally well.”

Benbow said Rockhampton performed strongly, with the association edged by just one point for the champion affiliate.

Rockhampton featured in five finals - the under-12 boys, under-14 boys, under-16 boys, under-18 boys and under-18 girls.
