Yoga educator Julie Smerdon was celebrating her birthday when she noticed something strange hanging from the roof of her deck.

“The day began with a python, hanging from the roof of our deck, eating a parrot,” she wrote on Instagram.

“The appearance of a snake is thought to be very auspicious, AND it was a full moon too!”

The caption accompanied a video she took showing the python’s head hanging off the roof with a bright Crimson Rosella still hanging out of its mouth.

She thanked the snake handlers from West Brisbane Snake catchers for dealing with the mid-meal snake.

“Layne and the snake catcher were heroes and the snake was safely relocated, so we ended the day with my beautiful family … a dance party, and my favourite chocolate cake,” she wrote.

“Feeling incredibly lucky and grateful for all the love and fun!”

The footage shows the handler on a ladder next to the reptile before he managed to coax it into wrapping around the ladder before bringing it down, unwrapping it, bagging it and relocating it.

Ms Smerdon then pans the camera to show a small drop of blood on a paver, believed to be from the bird.
