No, it’s not a bookworm. This is the python that took up residency at a Brisbane home for several days before being spotted, leaving clues around for the homeowners.

Snake handlers were called to a Brisbane home on Sunday night to deal with a python that had been hiding in a bookshelf for days.

St Lucia resident Rob Dryden said the reptile had left clues it was hiding in the bookshelf for at least two days before being spotted.

“We had noticed on Saturday morning, a number of items in the house had been knocked over but couldn’t work out how,” he said.

“The mystery was solved … the snake catcher told us its belly was full, probably of possum.”

Pictures of the python showed its bulging belly meaning the snake likely chose the indoor bookshelf as a warm spot to digest its last large meal.
