Soaked to the skin: gay newly weds get hit by a storm on their special day
When a severe thunderstorm rolled in, Scott and Keith’s special day was almost ruined. The newly weds were soaked through from the rain but still smiling as they celebrated with loved ones.

It was possibly the least romantic proposal of all time.
At least that’s what Scott Palazzi said when we asked him how his partner Keith Barry Russell had proposed.
Couple tie the knot with ‘green’ wedding
Radio star invited Captain America to wedding
I proposed the first night I met my future wife
“We were discussing a ring that Keith’s dad had left him before he died,” says Scott.
“Keith then said we should go ring shopping to buy me a ring (so I had one as well). My response was, ‘Well I’m only getting one if it means what I think it should mean (an engagement ring)’ … Keith replied, ‘OK’.”
Fortunately there was plenty of romance in the air when the couple tied the knot at Cowbell Creek, Austinville, in the Gold Coast hinterland. The newlyweds were introduced by mutual friends at Fortitude Valley’s Beat Nightclub in 2001, but the timing wasn’t right. Three years later they crossed paths again when Keith phoned Scott’s flatmate for a catch-up.
“We have been inseparable ever since,” says Scott.
Theme?
Modern country.
First dance?
You Are In Love —Taylor Swift.
Honeymoon?
We kind of did things in reverse order, and went to Europe the year prior to the wedding for four weeks. We stayed in London, Edinburgh, Paris, Lyon, Nice, Barcelona and Majorca.
What made this uniquely your wedding?
Keith knew for a long time that if we ever got married he would love to wear a kilt and get married in the countryside.
Scott decided we would exit the ceremony to Love At First Sight by Kylie Minogue, and enter the wedding reception with the bridal party to Crazy In Love
by Beyonce.
Special memories?
Both of us being walked down the aisle at the same time by Scott’s mother, the only living parent. We also loved the speeches the bridal party put together, which had us crying one second and laughing the next.
However, the biggest memory is the amount of love we felt directed towards us.
Funny moments?
Being up on a remote hill taking photos when a severe thunderstorm rolled. We drove back with the rain smashing us sideways. When we arrived back at the venue we were both saturated but laughing.
Then we laughed when we found out the caterer had cooked outside in the storm from start to finish just to make sure everything was on time (he was drowned).
To top it all off the power went out during the food service for a brief period.
Best advice for other couples planning
