UComms poll finds what Qlders think of Steven Miles, David Crisafulli

Queensland voters have revealed which words they associate with new Labor premier Steven Miles and his LNP challenger David Crisafulli.

'Fourth terms are very hard to win': Labor ‘are finished’ in Queensland

Premier Steven Miles is synonymous with the word “union” in the minds of Queenslanders according to a new poll done days after he was installed in the top job with the help of union powerbrokers.

But in a good sign for the fresh premier, a total of 42.7 per cent of Queenslanders have a positive opinion of him, while 27.6 per cent think of him negatively.

The poll of 1911 Queenslanders, conducted by UComms last Thursday and Friday, asked voters their opinions of Mr Miles, with the term “union” the word most used.

This was followed by the word “good”, also a term used to describe Opposition Leader David Crisafulli.

Comments glowing of Mr Miles by those polled included describing him as an “honest man” that “has compassion”, with other describing him as “intelligent, articulate, honest and likeable”.

But those who disliked the new premier referred to him as a “puppet”, “a bit of a buffoon, who isn’t very confident” and “utterly loathsome”.

Overall Mr Miles was viewed more positively in the minds of voters, with 42.7 per cent giving him a good review compared to 37.8 per cent received by Mr Crisafulli.

The results revealed a major gulf in what portion of the community are familiar with who they are.

While only 0.8 per cent of those polled said they had never heard of Mr Miles, a whopping 9.2 per cent said the same of Mr Crisafulli – despite him being Opposition Leader since the 2020 election.

Positive views of Mr Crisafulli among those polled included describing him as “diligent and careful”, “likeable and charming” and a “nice bloke”.

One voter noted Mr Crisafulli was nice but “needs to get a nasty streak”.

Those who viewed him negatively described him as a “boofhead, narcissistic and evil” and giving “creepy vibes”.

Mr Crisafulli, in line with a previous YouGov poll, is still the preferred premier among voters at 52.2 per cent.
