Push to ‘spread the word’ about LNP executive dream team

A senior LNP MP is urged party members to back a particular trio for the party’s executive and “spread the word” about how they “will work well together”.

Queensland Opposition Leader vows to end LNP's ‘internal cannibalising’

A senior LNP MP has urged party members to back in Lawrence Springborg, Amanda Cooper and Natalie Marr for the party’s executive and “spread the word” about how the trio “will work well together”.

The push comes ahead of what’s expected to be the biggest LNP Convention since the party’s merger in 2008 after Opposition Leader David Crisafulli demanded “monumental” reforms to help overcome unrelenting internal friction.

The Courier-Mail has seen a message sent by senior frontbencher Jarrod Bleijie to MPs, which says Mr Springborg, Ms Cooper and Ms Marr had indicated a “strong willingness” to work together for the “betterment of the party”.

“Many of us have served in parliament with Lawrence,” he wrote.

“You would also all know the hard work that both Amanda and Natalie put in for us during the 2020 election campaign as candidates.

“I hope you are as encouraged as I am by this new team and will spread the word to your local delegates that these three individuals will work well together and play an important role in future party reform.”

Mr Springborg, Acting President Cynthia Hardy and Timothy Wright are all running for president.

Ms Cooper, a former Brisbane City Councillor, is running for metro vice-president while Ms Marr, who ran for the party in Thuringowa at last year’s state election, is vying for regional vice-president.

The election for the top roles will take place on Saturday.

Meanwhile there is expected to be tension today around the proposed amendment for state council to have a 50 per cent vote when a new parliamentary leader and deputy are elected.

The amendment, put forward by the Metro South Region Women Council, also proposes the party’s president has the casting vote.
