CHO confirms 12 to 15 year-olds eligible for Pfizer from Monday

Walk-in clinics are popping-up across the state as the CHO confirms Queenslanders from 12-years-old are now eligible for the jab.

QLD first mass vaccination hub opens

Teenagers will be eligible for a Covid-19 vaccination from Monday and several of Queensland’s mass vaccination hubs will accept walk-ins as the state supercharges its jab rollout.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said from this weekend three vaccination sites would be accepting walk-ins following the popularity of other walk-in sites, including at Logan earlier this week.

From this weekend, Townsville, Mackay, and Rockhampton will be accepting walk-in vaccinations.

”We know how popular walk-ins vaccines are for people at the moment so in those regional areas from this weekend anybody will be able to walk-in and get it,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

The Premier said the department would be looking at other sites across Queensland where the program could be expanded.

The Health Minister confirmed along with the three regional walk-in sites, seventeen others across the state would allow walk-ins for priority workers.

”If you are in any of those priority groups, whether you’re a teacher, a distribution worker, in correctional or health services you can walk into one of these other centres this weekend,” Ms D’Ath said.

She echoed the Premier’s point that vaccinating frontline workers and having pop-up vaccination sites at distribution centres such as the Metcash facility in Browns Plains was essential to boosting the vaccine rollout.

Queensland chief health officer Jeannette Young said following updated health advice, children aged 12-15 would be able to receive the Pfizer vaccine from Monday.

Queensland’s 12-15 age demographic means approximately 270,000 teenagers will be added to the eligible vaccine population.

”What we need to do going forward is, we’ve all got to get vaccinated, so from Monday next week any Queenslander twelve-years or older is able to get vaccinated,” she said.

”Please come forward, the more people who are vaccinated, the less risk there will be of it spreading to a point it can’t be controlled.”
