Brisbane City Council election 2024: Labor reveals pick for lord mayor, several wards

A northside lawyer and sewing shop owner has been confirmed as Labor’s pick to run against Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, with the Opposition adamant it isn’t thinking about ganging up with the Greens after the 2024 local government poll.
Council Opposition Leader Jared Cassidy on Sunday also unveiled six more of Labor’s candidates for the upcoming March election across the Gabba, Tennyson, Runcorn, Calamvale, Holland Park and Paddington wards.
Lawyer Tracey Price was officially named Labor’s lord mayoral candidate.
Labor needs to win seven wards to gain a majority in Brisbane City Council, with Cr Cassidy spruiking the party’s chances to end the LNP’s 20-year reign at the helm.
He was also adamant Labor could lead council with a majority amid growing support for the Greens in Brisbane.
Cr Cassidy said Labor was the “party of administration” unlike the Greens.
Labor’s newest council candidates included social worker John Prescott for Runcorn, Queensland Young Labor president Emily Kim for Calamvale, and Kane Hart for Tennyson.
Small business owner and entrepreneur Bec McIntosh, who ran against Tracey Price for preselection, will run it The Gabba ward.
Social work university lecturer Dr Shane Warren will run in Holland Park, while Sun Etheridge, a top eight contestant in MasterChef in 2011, will run in Paddington.
