SCROLL DOWN FOR LATEST WARNINGS
Earlier today, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said fire fighters battling blazes in Queensland and New South Wales were “true national heroes” and praised the “character” of all Australians responding to the emergency.
BUSH FIRE UPDATES: RESIDENTS EVACUATED, PROPERTY DESTROYED
“Once again, we’ve seen on display the great character and care of Australians when they’re facing these sorts of disasters and I want to thank everybody, all the volunteers who’ve been out there, all of those who’ve been out there providing assistance to people working in the evacuation centres or out there supporting the firefighters and indeed the firefighters themselves,” he said.
“They’re true national heroes.”
He said emergency assistance payments were being made immediately available after requests were made.
“My simple message to Australians is to listen carefully to the warnings that are there, to follow those instructions, to not put yourself if at all possible in a position of risk and to provide support to one another as Australians always do in these circumstances,” he said.
The State Government says three schools will remain closed tomorrow.
Education Minister Grace Grace on Tuesday night said Beechmont and Numinbah Valley state schools, and the Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre, will be closed on Wednesday due to the ongoing fire emergency.
“The Department of Education continues to work closely with emergency services authorities and it is on their advice that we have made the decision to keep these schools closed again tomorrow,” Ms Grace said.
“However, as we have seen in recent days, the situation can change quickly.”
Ms Grace said schools in and around Stanthorpe would be open on Wednesday, as would the three schools on the Sunshine Coast that were closed today.
