An unpredictable bushfire continues to burn on the Sunshine Coast, with firefighters saying the uncontained blaze could flare up if a change in weather conditions eventuates.

Here’s the latest on the bushfire crisis.

Close to 80 bush and grass fires continue to rage across large swathes of Queensland, with the most dangerous fire still uncontained on the Sunshine Coast.

Firefighters have described the most serious fire affecting the hard-hit Peregian Beach area on the Sunshine Coast as like a “flamethrower”, as authorities warn the strong winds and dry conditions mean the blazes could continue to burn for weeks.

WHEN WILL CONDITIONS IMPROVE?

• Latest Bureau of Meteorology forecasts show fire danger decreasing across most of Queensland to “high” on Wednesday and Thursday as wind conditions ease.

• Increasing temperatures on Friday will lead to “very high” fire dangers returning across southern and central districts.

WHAT IS THE DAMAGE SO FAR?

• More than 70 fires burning statewide

• About 380 damage assessments completed

• There have been no fatalities.

• Seventeen homes have been lost in Queensland: 11 homes destroyed in the Scenic Rim; 4 homes destroyed in Applethorpe and Stanthorpe; 5 commercial structures destroyed in Binna Burra; 1 home destroyed, 1 home severely damaged in Peregian fires; 1 home destroyed in Biboohra

• Sixty-seven homes in Queensland have been damaged

• The damage tally is expected to rise once fire-ravaged areas are checked.

• 33,000ha of land has been scorched

• In Queensland, one home has been lost at Peregian Springs and another “severely damaged”, 11 homes have been lost at Scenic Rim, four at Applethorpe and Stanthorpe and one at Biboohra in Far North Queensland.

• Dozens of outbuildings and commercial facilities have been lost in both states.

• On the Gold Coast hinterland, the 86-year-old, heritage-listed Binna Burra Lodge was completely destroyed.

Bushfires continue to devastate QLD and NSW

HOW ARE AUTHORITIES RESPONDING?

• More than 1000 firefighters have been deployed in Queensland.

• On Tuesday afternoon, a Boeing 737 air bomber delivered a 15,000-litre payload of fire retardant along the fire front west of Peregian before returning to NSW.

• Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced she will cut her overseas trip short and return from Switzerland to assist with the crisis.

• 30 Victorian and 18 South Australian firefighters arriving today, joining a contingent of New South Wales and ACT firefighters already in Queensland.

UPDATE: Stanthorpe/Applethorpe - bushfire

6.40pm:
QFES has announced the Stanthorpe/ Applethorpe bushfire is extinguised.

Crews will continue to monitor the area over the next couple of days.

Local residents may now return to their homes and the previous exclusion zone has ceased. Properties are not under direct threat at this time. Residents affected by smoke should close windows and doors.

STAY INFORMED: Mount Archer (Rockhampton) bushfire

5.05pm: A bushfire is burning within the Mount Archer National Park, travelling in a northerly direction.

QFES and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) crews will remain on scene overnight patrolling the blaze.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Bungundarra (north of Yeppoon) bushfire

5.00pm: A bushfire is burning near Bungundarra Road and Mount Rae Road, Bungundarra.

Firefighters will remain on scene overnight monitoring the blaze. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Lynam (north of Townsville) – bushfire

5.00pm: Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are on scene at a bushfire burning near Mill Road, Lynam. Firefighters are working to contain the fire. Smoke may affect surrounding areas. Residents are advised to close windows and doors. If you feel your property is under threat, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

(UPDATE) STAY INFORMED: Peregian bushfire

4.30pm: A fire is no longer active within the Peregian area. Firefighters will remain on scene dampening down hotspots.

NOTE: separate bushfire warnings no longer apply for the Peregian bushfire.

Evacuation centres remain open at:

• Nambour Showgrounds on Coronation Avenue, Nambour

• Fishermans Road Multi Sports Centre at 108 Fishermans Road, Maroochydore.

• Noosa Leisure Centre, Wallace Drive, Noosaville

• The J Noosa, 60 Noosa Drive, Noosa Junction.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

UPDATE: Deception Bay — bushfire

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are no longer required on scene at this incident

UPDATE: Linville (near Moore) bushfire

2.40m: The previous bushfire warning has changed.

A bushfire is burning to the west of George Street, Linville.

The fire is contained and crews will continue to monitor.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Lowmead bushfire

2.15pm: A bushfire is travelling in a northerly direction from Seeds Road towards Tableland Road.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire and will remain on scene throughout the afternoon to conduct backburning operations and strengthen containment lines.

Gorge Road remains closed. Firefighters will be working alongside the road, so motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Ballandean (south of Stanthorpe) bushfire

1.20pm: A bushfire is burning in an area between Rees Road and Eukey Road, Ballandean. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

Firefighters are working to strengthen containment lines with efforts focused around properties along Rees Road and Eukey Road.

Residents who have left can now return home, however caution should be used as there may be hazards in the area.

STAY IN INFORMED: Esk bushfire

1.05pm: A bushfire is burning north of the Brisbane Valley Highway and near East Street in Esk. Crews are continuing to monitor the fire. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Illinbah (part of the Sarabah bushfire)

1.00pm: A bushfire is burning to the south of Illinbah in the Lamington National Park. Crews will continue to monitor the fire. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Binna Burra bushfire (part of the Sarabah bushfire)

12.50pm: A bushfire is burning at Binna Burra, south of Summerville Road. The area remains closed to the public. Firefighters continue to work to contain the fire. People in the area may be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Numinbah Valley bushfire (part of Sarabah bushfire)

12.40pm:

A bushfire is burning in inaccessible area in Lamington National Park, slowly travelling in a north easterly direction towards Nerang Murwillumbah Road, Numinbah Valley.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Sarabah

12.30pm: A bushfire is burning south of Sarabah Road in Lamington National Park. Fire crews will be working in the area monitoring and strengthening containment lines. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Lower Beechmont bushfire (part of the Sarabah bushfire)

12.00pm: A fire is burning in the Canungra Defence Base, slowly travelling in an easterly direction towards Lower Beechmont in an easterly direction. Crews are monitoring the fire, which is currently burning in inaccessible land. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: O’Reilly bushfire (part of the Sarabah bushfire)

11.55am: A bushfire is burning near Lamington National Park Road, between Sarabah Road and Kamarun Lookout Road, O’Reilly. The fire is burning close to Lamington National Park Road, and fire fighters are working in the area to contain the blaze. Motorists are advised to drive to conditions. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Goodger

10.50am: QFES crews are monitoring a bushfire burning near Kingaroy Cooyar Road and Old Taabinga Road, Goodger. This fire is posing no threat to property at this time, however smoke may affect nearby areas.

STAY INFORMED: Hawkwood (south of Mundubbera)

10.45am: QFES and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) crews are on scene at a bushfire burning in inaccessible land near Barbours Road and New Cadarga Road, Hawkwood. This fire is burning in containment lines and is posing no threat to property at this time. This fire is expected to burn for several days and smoke may affect nearby areas.

STAY INFORMED: Wooroora (near Ravenshoe)

10.35am: QFES crews are on scene at a vegetation fire burning near Blunder Park (previously Wooroora Station). This fire broke out yesterday and is posing no threat to property at this time. Firefighters and landholders continue to monitor the fire and smoke may be visible from Millstream and surrounding areas.

STAY INFORMED: Lockhart River

10.25am: The previous bushfire warning has changed.

QFES advises you need to keep up to date and decide what actions you will take if the situation changes.

Currently a bushfire is burning in inaccessible land near Lockhart River Road and Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park. The fire is travelling towards Lockhart River Road.

QFES and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) crews will monitor the fire today. Waterbombing aircraft will be in the area.

STAY INFORMED: Dimbulah

A bushfire is burning in the vicinity of Sandy Creek Road, Piemonte Road and Boonmoo Station, Dimbulah. Crews will continue to monitor the fire.

STAY INFORMED: Brookhill and Oak Valley (south of Townsville)

A bushfire is contained, burning near the Flinders Highway and Booth Road. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Gumlow

A bushfire is burning near Gumlow Road, south of Hervey of Range Road, Gumlow. The fire is now contained and is posing no threat to property at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Atkinson Dam

A bushfire near Atkinson Dam. You need to keep up to date and decide what actions you will take if the situation changes. Currently as at 1.25am Tuesday 10 September, a bushfire is burning near the intersection of Atkinson Dam Road and Gatton Esk Road. Firefighters will construct fire breaks in the area in the coming hours and throughout Tuesday. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

STAY INFORMED: Woodstock (south of Townsville)

A bushfire is burning in the vicinity of Woodstock Giru Road and Flinders Highway.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire. Smoke is affecting the Flinders Highway near Woodstock. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.
