Dozens of State Emergency Service volunteers have spent the morning scouring a property where an 88-year-old woman was found in a septic tank on Monday.

The woman, described by a family friend as “kind and quiet”, was reported missing by her son on Sunday before her body was found in the tank on the 3.5ha Pallara property in Brisbane’s south.

It has been revealed that police believe the tank cover had been removed due to recent heavy rain and the woman may have accidentally fallen in while walking on the property.

About 40 SES members descended on the Pallara property on Wednesday morning where they spent three hours searching the yard and bush surrounding the double-storey brick home.

A police media spokesman said the incident was still deemed non-suspicious and the SES search was part of a “finalisation of the investigation”.

Emergency crews were first called to the scene about 3pm on Sunday after the woman was reported missing.

It’s believed she fell into the tank earlier that day.

The property at Brookbent Rd remained a crime scene on Wednesday afternoon and family weren’t home.
