A BOY is still recovering in hospital after a wild joyride which killed his friend in Brisbane’s north on Saturday morning.
A 15-year-old teenager who was travelling in the back seat of the vehicle that lost control and hit a property on Appleby Rd at Stafford about 2am on Saturday was killed.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics worked on the teen for some time but he was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
One of the boys, around the same age, was treated by paramedics before being taken to Lady Cilento Childrens Hospital in a stable condition, after he fled to a nearby home.
Police were unable to confirm if the teen has been formally interviewed on Sunday morning.
The third boy is still on the run, but police are confident in identifying him.
The Courier Mail understands the car had been stolen from Brisbane’s north, but had not been reported missing to police at the time.
The two other teens who left their mate for dead were allegedly heard shouting “what the f--- have you done” as they ran from the house they crashed into.
John Gomez, who owns the house where the crash happened, said the family woke to a deafening bang and saw the old-style Toyota Camry, which had ploughed through their front fence and hit his car which was parked in the driveway.
He told The Courier-Mail he heard a deafening bang before looking out his window to see what he thought was two teenagers running away.
“I opened my window and I saw a car in the front yard and then I saw two people running and I shouted out to them ‘Oi’,” Mr Gomez said.
“Then I heard one of them shouting to the other one: ‘What the f--- did you do? What the f--- have you done?’.
“We didn’t know, at first, there was someone else in the car because we were in shock but the neighbours saw the boy in the back seat and tried to help him but unfortunately he passed away.”
Mr Gomez said he thought the “kids” he saw running away were no older than 17 years old.
“The car has clearly lost control coming down the hill and I just feel sorry for the poor parents of the boy who died,” he said.
“We are very lucky the car didn’t hit the house, otherwise we could have been much worse.”
Neighbour, Robert Downing, who called triple-0 following the incident said he saw the two teens running to a nearby street.
“I just yelled at them “stop” because of the way they were running away, you could tell they were part of it,” he said.
“Then I went straight over to the house where the car was and everyone was just in shock. It wasn’t until about five minutes had passed that we realised there was another person in the back seat.”
One of the teens was tracked down by police and taken to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The second person involved in the accident is yet to be spoken to by police.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
The death was the second fatality overnight, with a young pedestrian also killed west of Brisbane.
