Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck on highway

A man has died after being hit by a truck on the Bruce Highway.

A MAN has died after being hit by a truck on the Bruce Highway in Far North Queensland.

Police and Ambulance crews were called to reports a pedestrian was hit by a large vehicle on the Bruce Highway at Cardwell about 8.50pm Sunday.

The 46-year-old man was walking along Victoria Street the when he was hit by a truck.

He died at the scene.

Emergency crews remained on scene late Sunday night. Police diversions were in place along the highway at Cardwell, with authorities advising drivers to avoid the area if possible.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

It was the second fatal crash in Queensland on Sunday, after a 25-year-old male motorcyclist died at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at Slacks Creek, south of Brisbane.
