Annastacia Palaszczuk has revealed her new role will be a part-time commitment, giving way to a better work-life balance.
The former Queensland premier spoke with ABC Brisbane this morning following the announcement of her appointment to the Smart Energy Council, an advocacy group campaigning for a renewable energy future, as international ambassador.
“They appointed me, and I’m absolutely delighted,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“When you leave politics, you want to pursue interests that you feel strongly about,” she said.
“Having brought down the Queensland energy and jobs plan whilst I was premier, I am very passionate about this industry – it’s something that I think I can add to their line of work.”
She revealed she would commit to “doing a few other things” alongside her position in the council but was enjoying a quieter life.
“I’ve been able to spend a lot more time with family,” she said.
“I’ve been able to take a bit more care of myself, engaging in sport activities, keeping healthy and I’m very much enjoying my lifestyle.”
Ms Palaszczuk confirmed she would have no conflict of interest in her new role despite her nearly decade long career in state politics.
“I have had integrity advice and everything is fine,” she said.
When asked if she would ever return to politics, Ms Palaszczuk said she was “very happy doing what I’m doing”.
“It was a great privilege and a great honour (to serve Queensland) and it’s something that I will absolutely treasure, but now it’s time for me to do other things and Smart Energy Council ticks all the boxes,” she said.
The former premier was coy on whether or not she would be releasing a memoir following her retirement, stating Queenslanders would need to “wait and see”.
Her comments come after it was revealed celebrity agent Max Markson had been employed by Ms Palaszczuk to promote her post-politics career.
Mr Markson previously said he was “on the case” about a book deal but his immediate focus would be getting the former premier on the speaking circuit.
