At 80-years-old, prominent Queensland racing trainer Trevor Miller has seen it all but has no intention of hanging up the boots just yet.

The Sunshine Coast-based trainer is part of the furniture at Corbould Park, launching his stable in January 1987, just 18 months after the track opened.

His first runner was on Australia Day before recording his first win with Copper Shoes the following month.

His runner Heavenly Knight also set the 1000m track record, bolting home in 1.03.79 in April, 1991.

Miller said he was proud of his career and still enjoyed being around the horses.

“I wouldn’t still be doing it if I didn’t enjoy it but I’ve run my race,” he said.

“I’m still walking around and my legs still work with my new knee.

“I think I’ll be here for a bit longer but for how long, that’s a roll of the dice.”

The legendary trainer remains the only person to win all five major Sunshine Coast races including the Caloundra Cup, the Sunshine Coast Guineas and the Glasshouse Handicap twice.

Miller battled it out in the trainers rankings alongside the late Mick Mair, with Miller winning the Sunshine Coast trainer’s premiership more than a dozen times.

He joined forces with six-time Sunshine Coast premiership winning jockey, Ken Pope, with the pair combining for 95 wins before Pope retired in 2013.

Accompanied by his daughter Mandy, Miller is still going as well as ever, recording three winners and five placings from 26 starts at the Sunshine Coast this season.

“Each day is different with your good and bad days in racing,” he said.

“You can think all you want about your horse but it’s out of your hands when it’s on the track which is what matters.”

Miller said he was happy with the 15 horses in his current stable.

“No one likes bad horses and it’s a bit hard to get a good one these days but we’re happy with what we have now and there’s some nice ones in our stable at the moment,” he said.

“I don’t want to expand and I’ve got a pair of new tw0-year-olds which is exciting as I haven't had any young ones for a while.

“They had a jumpout recently so if they’re really good they’re generally good from day one but we’ll wait and see.”
