Five teens armed with baseball bats who drove two hours to wreak havoc throughout Noosa Heads’ streets had their efforts cut short by police.

The “eshays” were arrested at Park Road near the popular Little Cove beach after police were made aware of the armed, balaclava-wearing group.

The holiday hotspot has fallen victim to nuisance teens visiting the area in recent weeks with multiple reports of fights in the streets.

Noosa Police acting Senior Sergeant Troy Cavell said they were already tracking the car the teens were driving when members of the public phoned about them.

He said four crews quickly responded and arrested the two 18-year-olds and three 17-year-olds outside the popular beach at Park Rd.

“(Monday) afternoon we had word there may have been a disturbance that was going to occur around Hastings St involving people from Noosa and Brisbane,” Sergeant Cavell said.

“It did eventuate and a number of calls came in saying there were people in vehicles with baseball bats and wearing balaclavas.”

The two 18-year-olds were charged with public nuisance while the younger trio will be dealt with under the youth justice act.

“They have driven from Brisbane specifically to be involved in a disturbance,” Sergeant Cavell said.

“They were going to come up here and cause some ruckus but we got word and managed to get hold of them early.

“It’s disturbing behaviour that’s unacceptable in a community.”

Sergeant Cavell said some public nuisance was expected during the holiday season with the influx of visitors but that this year it was particularly bad.

He said it was worse than in 2020 when the area experienced bad behaviour during Schoolies which continued through to New Year’s Eve.

“New Year’s Eve there were thousands of kids down there intoxicated, they were really young, and most of them we dealt with but they weren’t from here,” he said.

“They have this free for all mentality that they’re going to do whatever they like.”

Officers from Eumundi and other quieter suburbs were called in.
