A female hotel worker was faced with a frightening ordeal when a masked duo threatened her with a firearm and demanded money.

Detectives are investigating after a masked pair threatened a female hotel worker with a firearm and demanded money on Sunday night.

A man and a woman entered the Royal Mail Hotel, Tewantin, around 11.30pm and threatened a hotel worker, according to Queensland Police.

The staff member complied and the pair left with a sum of money.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the offenders covered their faces with masks.

The man was described as caucasian with a solid build and the woman, caucasian with a slim build.

Royal Mail Hotel owners Australian Venue Co confirmed the incident happened at the hotel.

They said they could not comment further while the investigation was underway.

The Poinciana Ave hotel is described as a “locals favourite” and was opened in 1882.

Detectives are appealing for any information, dashcam footage or anyone who saw any vehicle or people in the area to contact police.
