A popular Main Beach massage business is rubbing people up the right way when it comes to helping Noosa achieve its community goal of being emissions free by 2026.
Having just secured a five-year extension to her beach business permit, Massageandwellbeing.com owner Amanda Obara is doubly chuffed to have been rated carbon neutral.
"It's very exciting," Ms Obara said.
"The council only advised me yesterday that my submission was a successful one for the beach massage permit."
It came after sustainability consultant Amanda Pummer found the beach operation was able to carbon offset its entire carbon emission production last year.
"Ms Obara's businesses is likely to be the first massage businesses in Noosa shire to become carbon neutral - climate neutrality means you have reduced your climate impact to net zero," Ms Plummer, of Sustainable Happiness, said.
"We hope to use her experience as a role model for the region.
"Enhancing environmental sustainability through reducing carbon emissions, curtailing waste and managing resources efficiently will deliver better outcomes for customers and provide broader social and economic benefits."
Ms Obara said the process was a lot easier and cheaper than she thought it would be.
"We feel a lot better know that we're contributing much less to environmental pollution and it's already saving us money," she said.
"We may be small in Noosa but we are many and we have the potential to collectively make a big impact."
Her business has adopted a lot of simple replacements like replacing cable ties to help fix her beach massage marquee with velcro and no longer using disposable linen.
Ms Obara also subscribed to 100 per cent green energy to run her business office.
She plans to transform her marquee top and sidings into beach bags with the help of Noosa's Boomerang Bags.
She said Noosa businesses looking to do the same could start by similarly micromanaging their operations to help achieve carbon neutral status.
"They could start with a really small footprint - like hotels could make their office carbon neutral only, then broaden it out," she said.
