A Tewantin mum-of-four and serial thief has come before the court again for her latest bout of stealing from the same store of Dan Murphy’s at Noosaville.
During Noosa Magistrates Court proceedings on Wednesday, Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin told the court he was surprised Brodie Simone Lunardi had not been banned from the store after stealing alcohol on 14 occasions.
Lunardi had previously been placed on probation for stealing alcohol from the Noosaville Dan Murphy’s store on eight occasions in recent years.
Appearing in court on Tuesday, Lunardi faced six fresh charges of entering a premises and committing an indictable offence which she pleaded guilty to.
She also pleaded guilty to three charges of breaching bail.
Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke said each time from April 13 to May 9, 2020, Lunardi would walk directly to a display area containing alcohol and take items, concealing them inside her handbag.
“She chooses items that are easy to conceal and with high alcohol content,” Sergeant Nitschke said.
“On the first occasion she attended the counter and paid for a bottle of water whilst concealing alcohol.”
The total amount of alcohol stolen on the six occasions amounted to $254.
Mr McLaughlin described Lunardi’s behaviour as “contemptuous”.
“If I ran that Dan Murphy’s store I’d have a picture of her on the front door saying ‘do not come in’,” he said.
Solicitor Patterson said her client had moved to the Sunshine Coast from Victoria three years ago.
“She has been trying to access help and realises she has a problem,” Ms Patterson said.
Mr McLaughlin sentenced Lunardi to one month prison suspended for one year and fined her $400.
“If you are caught stealing in the next year you have to expect to go to jail Ms Lunardi,” he said.
